So, I’ve spent the past few weeks scouring flea markets in search on crucifixes, chain, and leather- for,  quite possibly, my best commission ever.  I am embellishing a mic stand for the original “Prince of Darkness” himself, Mister Ozzy Osbourne.  I have also knit him several shattered spider-web sweaters to wear onstage- as well as a floor length sweater coat…. photos are on the way.  In the meantime I have posted a few detail shots of the stand… hopefully I will have some of Ozzy performing with it in the very near future….

So, “Just Kids”, Patti Smith’s soulful depiction of her love affair with Robert Maplethorpe has just taken me down a tearful journey of partnership and a love beyond the traditional- into a realm that combines artistry with deep mutual respect.  Her tales of extreme poverty in untamed 1970’s New York are unselfconsciously heroic.  I felt ashamed to complain about life’s little obstacles reading her descriptions of painful experiences with no self pity or apology.  One moment after she gave her baby up for adoption at 19 and sat in a raincoat eating a solitary jelly doughnut- a forbidden treat- lonely and somehow deeply poignent.  The process of identitiy creation- fearless self exploration…plus she just looked so good- with her home-spun hair cut (modeled after Keith Richards).  I particularly loved the detailed description of Maplethorpe’s artistic evolution- the magazines that he purchased with what little money he could scrape together- in search of the perfect image for a collage or painting…. before he could afford a camera to take his own photos.   I am in awe of Smith’s selfless devotion to Maplethorpe- a life long commitment that was not thwarted by sexual orientation or divergent careers.  I read the book in one day sitting in the store- weeping intermitently- she takes my breath away.

Latest oldest obsession, Lynch forever and ever!  I just moved to a cabin in the Topanga woods- sometimes creepy with the howling coyotes outside and wind blowing- but always magical and mystical.  As you might imagine, Twin Peaks keeps coming to mind- navajo prints, stuffed ram heads, rusted mining tools, and stacks of firewood.  I find myself in limbo between the two worlds of plaid plus red lipstick or crochet 1970’s lace Joni Mitchell Powwow.  Can’t I do both?  Loving these old commercials Lynch did for perfume….

Malcolm Mclaren died this week from Asbestos related cancer- apparently he took a sledge hammer to the ceiling of the iconic Sex shop years ago in an effort to simulate a bomb explosion.  Sitting in the shop, inhaling the fumes literally killed him.

These Italian Vogue shots are beyond.

So I guess the new thing is accessories for your accessories- charms and fox tails for purses and jewelry for shoes.  This jewelry line from San Francisco, Littler, is taking it to the streets with shoe chains… pretty rad.  Of course, I love the idea of clunker hoof-like shoes that jingle and jangle when you walk.  We just got in some new boots from Luxury Jones- embellished with belts and ruffles that must be seen to be believed.
