By the way, I really can’t wait for fall…. when I can take all of my black studded leather clothes out of the closet and start recruiting for my all girl biker band/gang. We are going to be so tough- like the girls in Ladies and Gentelmen, The Fabulous Stains….. just you wait, everyone will want to join in…. In case you haven’t seen this movie, I wanted to mention it- as it represents one of the pivotal influences in my childhood. While sleeping over at a friends house in the fourth grade I stumbled upon this movie on late night cable- having no television of my own- I spent hours watching MTV at this particular friend’s house in search of clothing ideas and general coolness inspiration. So, when this movie came on, that fateful night, I remember being absolutely blown away. Stains, starring Diane Lane (at 14), is the cautionary tale of a girl punk band’s rise to stardom- and almost simultaneous fall from grace- who knew it could happen so fast? The aesthetic of this movie, made in 1981, is so sharp and refined- I wish that everyone dressed like this- nothing but a transparent top (no bra) leotard bottoms, and a trench coat. Perfection. Although the movie was a giant flop when it came out, many girls discovered it on late night tv- and hence the cult following. It was released on dvd last year if you wanna take a look…..

Announcing the arrival of Madley knits at Church Boutique in West Hollywood…. owned by former Maxfield manager, Rodney Burns! So excited. It’s a stunning space filled with magical independent fashions, couture vintage, and antiques- go check it out!!
Miss Goldfrapp… just a wonderful picture.
I still can’t get over Emma Cook’s collection from last fall… I gladly welcome the resurrection of all things grunge- and Miss Cook is doing the best re-invention as I see it. Her use of textile and pattern is sophisticated and outrageous and lovely! I want to wear everything in this collection!!! It has been a strange year watching all the young ladies pass through Madley wearing my high school uniform- Docs, shredded tights, floral baby-doll dresses, and dark lipstick- I remember thinking how bad 90’s style was at the time- even as I embraced it. But I guess it all becomes artfully ironic ten years later.

Some pencil sketches from Emma Cook’s studio- she used this print on a collection she did for Top Shop- I love the way that she combines natural elements and geometry in her work… so modern and feminine.

A Madley necklace on Bryce Dallas Howard….

Tough. Very Tough.
Because she’s so beautiful….
